Modes & Data Sources
Understand Performance vs Outlook, and where Insight pulls revenue and utilization data from.
Insight has two modes:
- Performance: historical data (what has already happened)
- Outlook: future projections (what is expected to happen)
The filters and layout stay the same. The data source changes depending on the mode and widget.
Performance (Past)
Performance is for results and trend review:
- Revenue is based on payments (what was actually recorded as money events).
- Utilization/capacity is based on bookings + availability.
Use Performance to answer: “What did we actually earn?” and “How busy were we?”
Outlook (Future)
Outlook is for planning and forecasting:
- Projected revenue is based on the Price field on upcoming bookings.
- Capacity/utilization is based on upcoming bookings + availability.
Projected revenue is an estimate
Projected revenue shows expectations, not guarantees. Actual revenue may differ if prices change, discounts are applied, or additional payments/refunds happen later.
Revenue vs Booking-Based Metrics (Important)
Insight uses different sources depending on what you’re looking at:
- Revenue widgets use payments (Performance) or booking prices (Outlook).
- Utilization/availability widgets use events (bookings) and your opening hours/time off/closures.
These do not “switch” based on filters. They switch when you switch Performance ↔ Outlook (and depending on the widget).
Cancellations, Deletions, and Refunds
In general:
- Canceled/deleted bookings are excluded from booking-based utilization/capacity metrics.
- Revenue reflects money events (charges, refunds, adjustments). A refund reduces revenue even if the booking happened earlier.
Historical Changes
Insight values are not immutable.
If payments are edited later (for example, a refund is added), historical Insight values can change to reflect the current ledger state.
